3 Simple Steps to Find Success This Year

One of the most important parts of your role as a wedding photography business owner is to create strategic plans to help you succeed throughout the year. But, sometimes it can be difficult to know exactly where to start and what you need to focus on. Here at ShootDotEdit, we provide wedding photography editing services to help free up your workflow to focus on more important items in your business – such as your business plan! To help you find success this year, we reached out to Matt and Carissa Kennedy of The International Academy of Wedding Photographers to gain their insights to help you with your business plan this year.

When I was a young adult, I worked in a financial firm with one of the top financial planners in our area. One of the things I valued most from that job was learning how to create a practical, solid business plan. Every year my boss would sit down with me to go through his business plan for the next year. We would look back at how that previous year went, then we would review our goals for the next year. At that time, it gave me an incredible amount of motivation to achieve the goals for the business, and it wasn’t even my business! Writing a business plan does not have to be an intimidating process! It is the chance to reflect and dream. Dream big! You may have shot 40 weddings last year or maybe you only photographed one or two. Either way, if you have the desire of making your photography an actual business, it is time to treat it like a REAL business.

The Keys to Defining Success for Your Business

As a business owner, you spend much of your time on strategic plans to help you succeed throughout the year (and the years following). This includes plans to attract ideal clients, book more weddings, and grow to the next level. Because every photographer has a different path, how do you know what will work best for you? And, how can you ensure you are happy with the plan you create?

Below, Vanessa Joy, shares her insights into how to define success for you and your business. Take a look to discover Vanessa’s keys to implement today.

———————————————————————————

I believe, when you’re not taking the time to identify your why and where, you’re setting yourself up to waste time running in circles and ultimately chase the wind.

It’s different for everyone. Everyone has a different vision for their life long-term. Some kind of idea of what they’d like their life to look like, even if it’s only in small pockets of clarity. If you want to start a business, I don’t think you need to make a business plan. Business plans can take too long to create, stifle creativity, and get outdated too often. But, you need business goals to know what you’re working toward.

Top 5 Tips for Posing with Confidence

Posing during the wedding day can be challenging to master. Because you do not always have control over the situation or location, how can you capture the images your couple hired you to take and do it confidently?

In our Online Training: How We Pose Our Clients: 10 Tricks We Use in Every Shoot, Justin and Mary Marantz shared their personal insights into how they pose during every wedding day. They also shared their free eBook, The 5 Best Business Decisions We Made, which you can use to make decisions for your business. Here are the top 5 tips for posing with confidence from Justin and Mary’s Online Training.

“How do we start taking pictures of people, and stop taking pictures of poses?” – Justin and Mary Marantz

 1. Use Their Names

One of the main objectives for you during the wedding day shoot is to ensure your couple is comfortable with you, and in front of the camera. When you use their names often, you give them a reason to trust you and have confidence in your abilities. Your couple will know you took the time to learn their name, and you care enough to use it often during the shoot. The trust they have in you helps them open up and share their story.

Announcing Fotoskribe. Now a ShootDotEdit Company

ShootDotEdit has acquired Fotoskribe.

Fotoskribe is the leading expert in blogging as-a-service for the Pro Wedding and Portrait Photographer. Over the years, Fotoskribe has earned the trust and reputation of creating best in class content and image publishing for its customers. They specialize in matching the voice and style of each photography business they serve. We have been especially inspired by Fotoskribe’s repeated ability to get Google’s attention and thereby increase the SEO rankings of their clients. For these reasons and many others, it made good sense to align with and purchase them.

Last year, we announced the introduction of “Extra,” FREE event gallery hosting, event gallery marketing, and event gallery sales for all ShootDotEdit customers. This announcement was a giant step toward creating a linear workflow path, one that cuts out all of the painful zig-zags and stop gaps that come with building, managing, and selling event images. “Extra” does all of these difficult and time-consuming tasks for our customers, for free. The purchase of Fotoskribe is another exciting step toward that same goal of empowering and enabling the success of Pro Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

For Jared Bauman and I (co-founders of ShootDotEdit), our position is the same today as it was in 2005 when we decided we must let go of business tasks preventing us from succeeding: do what you do best and outsource the rest. As the professional photography economy of “fast” increases its speed, there just isn’t enough time in business to do it all. And yet, it all needs to get done in order to compete, in order to succeed.

Moreover, the new social and networking demands for the Pro Photographer are more time and energy consuming than ever before. And so, the acquisition of Fotoskribe is another service that naturally aligns with what we believe is a needed service for Pro Photographers who want to succeed and profit in their business.

I’m excited; we’re excited. 🙂 We hope you are too.

In conclusion, if you have questions, make it a point to connect with Fotoskribe: LEARN MORE. Or, feel free to call 415.692.3669 to talk personally with an expert about how Fotoskribe can help you and your business.

I invite you to join us on this journey of what new success looks like for the Pro Wedding and Portrait Photographer.

One Surefire Way to Book More Weddings Throughout the Year

One of your main focuses as a wedding photography business owner is to attract new clients and book more weddings. Booking more weddings helps your business grow, and allows you to place your images in front of larger audiences of ideal clients. Since there are many strategies you can use to book more weddings, we reached out to the International Academy of Wedding Photographers to gain their valuable insights. Below, they are sharing one surefire way you can book more weddings throughout the year.

———————————————————————————

It’s the beginning of a new year, and as you look at the calendar, you can’t help but have a little knot in your stomach. You may be a great photographer. You may have great branding. You may be a friendly person. But, how do you get more couples to think about using you? The number one way we have received more bookings is by REFERRALS! Referrals from our clients, the wedding party, or family we have worked with, and the vendors we’ve worked alongside!

Not only should you be spoiling your client with great service along the way, but a lot of photographers also forget how important the wedding party is in your marketing strategy. These potential brides and grooms are with you all day long and watch you work. Here are some key ways to get this group on your side and calling you first when they get engaged.
